Interview: Poornima Vijayashanker, Founder of Femgineer
A fundamental struggle many developers or entrepreneurs tackle is picking an idea and then following through all the way to the completion of a viable product. Some of us have too many ideas swimming in our brains. While others don’t know where to begin.
I’ve asked Poornima Vijayashanker to be on the devLatino podcast. She was the founding engineer of Mint.com (a personal finance web product which was acquired by Intuit) and is currently the founder of Femgineer, a business that helps tech professionals and entrepreneurs, especially women, level up their careers. Currently, Poornima has a free e-mail course titled “How to Transform your Ideas into Software Products” and that is the topic we are discussing. But I would invite those who don’t have a desire to launch a software product to listen because these lessons can apply to any type of business planning and launching. I hope you enjoy the interview.
Questions discussed in the interview:
- Why Poornima started Femgineer?
- What do I do if I have too many ideas, or no ideas, for a product?
- Don't wait for the perfect idea
- When should we start assembling a team?
- What should be my time commitment? How much money should I have? Do I quit my current job?
- How do we get early adopters to pay for a prototype?
- When is the right time to launch?
